Driving Directions
Directions to the Alta Hotel from the Juan Santamaria International Airport
Finding places in Costa Rica can sometimes be difficult because many streets do not have names, most homes and businesses do not have numbers, and road signs are often absent. Here are the turn-by-turn driving instructions from the Juan Santamaria International Airport to the hotel. If you are not driving during rush-hour traffic, the driving time is about 15-20 minutes. - Leave Airport and head east toward San Jose. At yield sign merge right onto Pan American highway traffic (Careful!)
- Follow highway toward San Jose for about 3 kilometers, pass toll booth (on opposite side of the road only) and exit at the La Ribera de Belen and San Antonio Exit
- Turn left after exiting (the large white Intel plant is in front of you).
- Turn right at first intersection/stop sign (sign says Santa Ana 12 kilometers)
- At next intersection turn quick left (sign says Marriott Hotel)
- At stop sign turn right (sign says Ribera, Marriott Hotel). Continue for about 2 kilometers: pass Marriott, pass intersection with yellow flashing light and go down hill.
- Turn left at Ribera Shopping Center (Churrasquerias Restaurant and BN are on the right.
- Turn right at stop sign (sign says Santa Ana)
- Bear right at intersection/traffic light
- Turn left at the traffic light. Panasonic is on the left.
- Drive about 3.2 kilometers: passing several shopping centers, go under bridge at light.
- At the next light/stop sign after the bridge go straight. The Cruz Roja or Red Cross is on your left. CAREFUL HERE AS TRAFFIC COMES FROM BOTH DIRECTIONS.
- Then at the immediate next corner turn left.
- Continue straight through the town of Santa Ana for about 3.3 kilometers, eventually curving left then right and climbing the hill known as Alto de las Palomas. Look for a Hotel Alta sign. As you near the crest of the hill you will see the orange-colored Alta Hotel on your left. If you reach the top of the hill and start to go down, you have gone too far.
